Education in Cyprus is overseen by the Ministry of Education and Culture. Education is mandatory for children between the ages of six and eighteen. The school year starts in September.
State run schools are financed through national taxation, and take pupils free of charge between the ages of 3 and 18. Temporary and permanent residents in Cyprus from the EU and Non EU countries are entitled to free education in Cyprus. For those wishing private education there are many excellent private establishments for all stages of education. Higher education in Cyprus consists of public and private Institutions of higher education at university and non-university level.
